Testfahrt: Saalbach Hinterglemm

It’s far but it’s worth it!  And again we went to Austria to go on with testing the resorts. Now we decided to go to Saalbach Hinterglemm which is a 2 hour distance from Munich.

You can enter the area at Leogang or at the Viehhofen / Saalbach / Hinterglemm – Valley. We decided to start at Saalbach at the “Kohlmaiskopf”. There the official World-Cup-Run (1991) is located. (They have a great parkhaus there (free for skiing) which saves the town to have a ugly parking ground.)

The snow was great today as they have had a very light (!) new and powdery snow which has just fallen. Below this new snow the old one was quite hard and frozen which made it a little bit difficult to ski and board down at the deep-snow, but it was definitely great fun as it was fantastic to go down near the runs with snow blowing up almost to your face.

The run nr. 28 and lift nr. 15 is a bit too flat but you have to use them to go round.

We stopped our roudtrip at “Waleggalm” near “Spieleckkogel”, “Reichkendlkopf” and “Hochalmspitze” to have some “Gröstl mit Ei” and homemade “Kasnocken” which are worth to be recommended.

After lunch we sadly noticed that the black run at “Zwölferkogel” (Nr. 14) was closed. But we were amused by the very clean hightech-restrooms on “Zwölferkogel” at 1984m at minus 14 degrees.

After skiing at “Schattberg” we had to hurry to reach Saalbach again as at a quarter past four when the lifts closed it got dark very soon…

On wednesday, 22.12.99 the “Riesenslalom” will be at “Zwölferkogel”.

The skipass is 30 Euro.

Testfahrt: Zugspitze – Wow – it was great!

Damals noch in Englisch ;) … die erste offizielle Testfahrt vom 26. November 1999:
Blick über Garmisch-Partenkirchen
Blick über Garmisch-Partenkirchen

We have gone to Garmisch-Partenkirchen today and went by the Eibsee-Cabin to the top of the highest mountain of Germany.

There was enough of space to park directly at the cabin and at the rack-railway. We went up in ten minutes by cabin and reached the
top of Zugspitze with a view of 200 kilometers!
Sadly not all the lifts were open yet, but never mind – the snow was definitly the best snow I have had for a really long, long time (belive me!). The snow was in best condition the whole day long and besides the runs there was plenty of deep-snow!

As it was a friday we did not have to queue up at the four running lifts. For lunch it was also no problem to find a seat at “Hexn Hütt’n” or “Sonn Alpin” directly at the galcier.

We had sun from our arrival at the runs at 10 o’clock until 16.15 o’clock when the lifts stoped! Afer skiing you can enjoy at the apes-ski-tent at “Sonn Alpin” or on the top.
To get down to Eibsee we took the rack-railway as there was a waitingtime of 40 minutes at the cabin. The downhill from Rifflriß was not open yet but its also nice to drive down by train in 35 minutes and enjoy the “Bayerische Zugspitzbahn”.
The skipass was 31 Euro (adult).
