Doing the great Sella Ronda from Selva Gardena via the pass of Gardena, we passed Corvara and went up to the Piz Boe. From there,  we could see the small, and therefore lovely village down in the valley, that bears the exotic name of “Arabba” and provides all facilities you need for excellent skiing vacations.

But what is more: The horizon line with the characteristic Porta Vescovo and a row of  rocky mountains in his neighbourhood invited us to cross the valley and enjoy the Arabba skiing area. So we decided to ski down to the village. We carved down the sunny runs of  medium difficult level. We had happy skiing and enjoyed easy skiing in the sun as a kind of appetizer for downhill skiing in steeper areas. After we had crossed the village, we entered the DMC Europa to go up to Porta Vescovo (2.478 m). This lift - using two ropes - is very fast and confortable and you can leave it halfway at the middle station in order to reach the pass of Padon. We left the lift at the top and were overwhelmed by the fascinating scenic view of the glacier Marmolada.

In the opposite direction we had a view from the S. Croce on the left up to Lagazoi and the of the famous Cortina valley on the right.

We recommend the restaurant on top of  Porta Vescovo. All the runs from there lay in the shade because they are northwards, but they offer a big amount of steep and exciting runs. We went down to the middle station and wanted to reach the pass of  Padon from where we skied down to Malga Ciapela.

Afterwards, we used the covered and warm 4-seater up to the pass of Pordoi (2.239 m). Because we had still time, we took the chance to use the cabin lift to the summit of the S. Pordoi with the restaurant Maria where we celebrated a good ski day.

In total: Despite of  its shady runs, Arabba is magnificient and provides to the good and ambitious skier a variety of exciting skiing possibilities.
